CUHK Students Running for A More Inclusive Community at TWGHs ‘iRun'”
On 14 January 2024, 13 CUHK students from I·CARE Community Inclusion Service Programme participated in the TWGHs “iRun” – The Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2024 as pair-up runners. This year, the race route was set in the Central and Western District Promenade and Lung Wo Road. The pair-up runners accompanied people with intellectual disabilities in the 3KM inclusive run. Students and the runners carried out four practice sessions from October last year to January this year to get themselves prepared for the iRun. Although it was the first time the participating students joined the event, they and the runners developed a mutual understanding throughout the event and practices. During the run, there were moments when some of them felt tired, but their companions supported each other to keep going. In addition to enjoying the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, the students also actively promoted healthy lives and advocated for community inclusivity. Overall, the event provided an excellent platform for the students to engage in meaningful community service, develop valuable relationships, and raise awareness about the importance of inclusivity. Through their participation, these students made a positive impact and left a lasting impression on both themselves and the community they served.
