From CUHK Talents To Future-Ready Global Leaders: The Transformation Journey

Achievements unlocked! Pioneered in 2024, 30 cadet global leaders experienced their transformation to be future-ready global leaders through the Global Leadership Programme (GLP). Aiming at arousing students’ curiosity in global issues, cultivating their cross-cultural competency and developing their leadership skills, GLP provides all-round development plans including training workshops, adventure-based leadership camp, Japan career exploration tour and mentoring experiences.

30 cadet global leaders shone on the stage at the final presentation in May. The project topics cover global issues ranging from Sustainable Peace, Diversity & Inclusion, Aging Population to Sustainability. Congratulations to the 8 awardees, i.e., the Champion team and the Best Presenters, on having just started their summer internships in Australia and New Zealand, to bring more positive influences on student community and make impacts to the world.

Judges, mentors and students see the beauty of GLP in grooming CUHK talents from diverse background at their early career development stage.

As a new initiative of CPDC, GLP facilitates students’ career development through classroom training and experiential learning. Let’s enjoy the sharing from Cyrus and Olivia, who joined GLP in their first year of studies.

As a participant of the Global Leadership Program, my journey has been nothing short of transformational. GLP is an all-in-one, well-equipped programme that encompasses various events aimed at building knowledge on ESG topics worldwide and enhancing participants’ skills. From the SDGs game to workshops and the highly anticipated Japan trip, each experience has contributed to my personal growth, broadened my international horizons, and equipped me with the confidence to face the future.

The Japan trip was an unforgettable highlight of GLP. During this immersive experience, I had the opportunity to visit prestigious institutions such as the Japan Stock Exchange, Bridgestone, JETRO, and Waseda University. These visits allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of sectors such as finance, manufacturing, and international trade, expanding my knowledge and providing valuable insights into global business practices.

I am incredibly grateful for the unexpected morning routine meeting. I was given the chance to deliver a speech in Japanese there, sharing what I had learned and introducing the staff and Cadet Global Leaders from CUHK. This encounter provided me with invaluable insights into Japan’s workplace culture and boosted my confidence in engaging with professionals at the highest level.

Another significant stage of GLP was the final presentation project. Drawing upon the knowledge gained, my team and I focused on addressing the critical issues of education and aging populations. Through extensive research and collaborative brainstorming, we developed a compelling project that emphasized the urgency of TAKING ACTION to mitigate these challenges. I am immensely proud that our team’s efforts resulted in winning recognition among the outstanding projects presented by fellow participants and taking the championship. This achievement reaffirmed the importance of tackling urgent global problems proactively.

In conclusion, Global Leadership Program has been transformative, equipping me with the skills, knowledge, and international perspective needed in an interconnected world. I now embrace diverse perspectives, tackle complex issues, and make a positive impact with newfound confidence. This experience has prepared me for my finance internship at Cathay Pacific, a multi-national corporation. I look forward to contributing to Cathay Dining’s success, leveraging my global mindset and problem-solving skills to drive positive changes. That being said, I genuinely express my heartfelt gratitude to CUHK and OSA for their unwavering support and for creating an enriching programme that has empowered me to face the future challenges with optimism and a global mindset.

Joining GLP was one of the best decisions that I made in my freshman year. Apart from equipping me with professional knowledge and soft skills, I find the adventure-based teamwork & leadership training extremely beneficial. Additionally, our mentor was of great help to our project and our personal development. My team chose the Sustainability topic, and the training and guidance provided by GLP greatly helped us to develop our ideas.

Although, in my point of view, the above-mentioned are all the biggest prizes I got from GLP already, I am also delighted to be awarded with an overseas summer internship opportunity. This is valuable especially for a freshman like me. I am ready and looking forward to starting my first Internship in New Zealand!

GLP did not only care about my attendance and the outcomes of the competition project but also my personal growth. Last semester, I made a very important decision in my life, which was to change my major. It is not relevant to any part of GLP, but it happened that CPDC is aware of my application. CPDC advisor surprised me by even proactively calling me to give advice and sharing some interview tips with me. Her advice and support meant a lot to me and my success in transferring to the new major, as well as my career development.

All in all, GLP was a worthwhile experience which I am forever grateful for. THANK YOU!
