The “ICAC Ambassador Programme”, a collaborative effort between the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), successfully held its first promotional event, the “ICAC Carnival,” on 20 and 21 February 2024. The booth included an informative exhibition area, interactive Q&A games, and an exciting street interview segment, which randomly tested more than 10 students’ knowledge of integrity-related information. The event also featured the mascot, “Walala”, who was popular and deeply beloved by the students, with many eagerly approaching for a photo opportunity. The ICAC Ambassadors have benefited greatly and gained valuable experiences through organising this event.
Jason Li, who served as External Vice President of the Programme, is a third-year student majoring in Government and Public Administration. He shared that “to transform into the mascot ‘Walala’ at the ICAC Carnival, I had to overcome my shyness and step out of my comfort zone. When ‘Walala’ successfully caught the attention of passersby, it brought me great happiness and a sense of accomplishment. Organising the entire event, from conception to execution, we discovered that generating interest and resonance among CUHK students was not easy. However, it also fueled our passion for exploring students’ interests and organising activities, providing us with valuable experience to hone our skills and strategies.”
Connie Wong, who served as Promotion Officer, is a fourth-year student majoring in Chinese Language and Literature. She also expressed that “I need to have courage to invite students to participate actively. When I could help participants understand educational content, it also brought me immense joy and a sense of accomplishment. One of the challenges in event planning was dealing with unforeseen incidents during the execution. A sudden strong gust of wind can disrupt the booth and cause chaos, so we should have multiple backup plans in place before the event.”
After the ICAC Carnival, participating students not only gained a deeper understanding of the work and mission of ICAC, they also completed the event with a sense of fulfilment. Moving forward, our ICAC Ambassadors will continue their efforts to promote honesty and integrity to the CUHK community through a variety of engaging activities and initiatives.
