Mental Health Services

Wellness and Counselling Centre (WACC) offers a range of psychological and counselling services, skills building programmes and self-help resources to assist you to overcome difficulties in adjusting to various challenges in university life, to achieve mental wellness and personal growth, to foster resilience and interpersonal competencies.

Psychological and Counselling Services

All registered full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students of CUHK are eligible for the services free-of-charge. The professional team of student counsellors from WACC are ready to support you as you overcome hurdles and brave stormy weather in university journey. Through counselling, you are encouraged to understand the nature of your difficulties, develop different perspectives as well as learn effective coping skills. Counselling is also a learning process which facilitates self-exploration and continuous personal development.

When to see a student counsellor?

You may benefit from seeing a counsellor when you:

  • experience problems in adapting to the university environment
  • feel unhappy, unmotivated or troubled for prolonged periods
  • wish to understand more about yourself or improve your relationships
  • feel that you are not doing as well as you should in your studies

How to make an appointment?

If you are new to WACC counselling services, please book an initial assessment session online with us.

During the initial assessment session, the counsellor will meet you for about 20 minutes to understand your needs and situation. Immediate advice or assistance will be provided to you where necessary. Based on the assessment, a full follow-up counselling session with a Case Counsellor will then be arranged for you.

If you have an urgent need to see a counsellor, you may visit WACC during office hours. The Duty Counsellor will assess your needs and make appropriate arrangements with you.

24-hour Emotional Support Hotline

If you need counselling support during non-office hours, please call the CUHK 24-hour Emotional Support Hotline at 5400 2055. The hotline is an outsourced service for CUHK full-time students and part-time PGDE students provided by Christian Family Service Centre.

There are also other Counselling Hotlines / Online Counselling Services available during non-office hours.

Mental Wellness Initiatives and Training

Apart from our campus-wide mental health promotions, we organize year-round initiatives for students to develop a robust set of skills to enhance their psychological wellbeing during university years and beyond.  Visit our website to join the upcoming programmes.

We offer a range of professional mental health training to equip our students and staff with the skills and knowledge to support other students in need more effectively. These include Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and module-based training for students and staff. Let’s join hands to cultivate a caring and supportive campus environment!
