CUHK has multiple affiliated student societies and interest clubs. By joining different clubs and participating in their activities, students can establish connections with like-minded individuals, explore and develop mutual interests, and thereby enrich their university life. Students can also unleash their potential, enhance their leadership skills, and expand their social networks through managing a society, hosting events, or creating new interest clubs, therefore achieving students’ whole-person development.
Procedures for Renewal of Society Registration (Interest Club)
Please prepare the following required documents in advance and upload all of them to the CU Webform. You may find the templates of several documents below.

The process of vetting an application for Renewal of Society Registration typically takes 7-14 working days. OSA will notify the applicant for any updates through email.
Application of Student Society Room 2024-2025
The usage period of 2023-24 student society room for affiliated clubs and societies will expire by the end of August, Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is providing support on allocating the society room for eligible student societies for 2024-25.
Student Society Rooms are open for application now. Student societies, except Faculty/ Departmental/ Programme student societies, who have completed the affiliation procedures with a registration letter issued by OSA would be eligible for application.
Interested Societies please read the Notes of Application carefully and submit an online application with supporting documents via CUWebform on or before 21 July 2024. Late application would NOT be accepted.

Remarks: New student societies that have not completed the 6-month pilot run period and received an official affiliation letter issued by OSA are not eligible to apply.
Formation of New Student Society (Interest Club)
If you are interested in forming a new student society (interest club) and affiliated with The Chinese University of Hong Kong, please write an email to societies-enquiries@cuhk.edu.hk and provide a proposal with the following information:
- The Chinese and English name of the proposed society
- Introduction and background of the proposed society
- Proposed mission, aim and nature of the proposed society
- Contact person’s name and SID
The proposed new society must demonstrate a strong nature of interest in the CU community, with unique features and purposes that set it apart from existing student societies or interest clubs.
Once your proposal is approved by OSA, your proposed new society may begin drafting the Society Constitution, Activity Plan, and Budget Plan, as well as completing other necessary requirements of forming a new student society.
Upon fulfilling those requirements, the newly established society will be granted a Pilot Run Letter, allowing for a 6-month trial period. At the end of the pilot run period, the society is required to submit reports to OSA for review. If it is endorsed, the society will be successfully formed with official affiliation letter granted.
Society Registration or Renewal for Faculty / Department / Programme Society
The registration and renewal procedures of academic societies are handled by respective Faculty / Department / Programme office directly.
Academic societies should submit their applications of University affiliation or renewal to their Faculty / Department / Programme office directly. The society will be official after receiving the affiliation letter issued by the office. Please refer to the respective Faculty / Department / Programme office for more information.
